I’d tell him to look for cheaper cars. That’s where the fun is. My first ( a 1988 Mustang LX convertible, with the inline 4 and an auto) was just $600 and taught me a lot about a lot of stuff, mainly things like “ what to do if you break down” and “ what stores sell oil at 10pm.” It was also the most fun car I’ve ever owned, despite being the worst. ( A lot of that is owed to it being a convertible, though. You of all people know what I mean, I’m sure.)

Don’t tell him about V12s. It took my dad forever to convince me that a Jaguar would be a terrible first car. Half the reason I wanted it was just so I could h ave more cylinders than everyone else at school.

I searched for sooo many cars to try to talk my parents into buying for me. We had a tight budget and i spent countless hours on Craigslist. Ended up (somehow) talking them into a 1978 280z with a 4-speed foe $3k , my mother agreed to it sight unseen. The P.O. had straight-piped it. I pulled it into the driveway, my mom  took one look at it, and she said (mind you, she NEVER swears) “WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BACK SEAT?!”

It was then that i knew I’d selected the right car.

I love P5s particularly in yellow. Damn shame they were  almost all gone around here 10 years ago.
